With backgrounds that include teaching and police work, our instructors know how teens, adults and seniors learn to drive, so we customize our teaching approaches to our students. All Cantor's Driving School instructors have clean driving records, child abuse clearances, have passed criminal background checks and been FBI fingerprinted. Over half of Cantor's Driving School instructors are off-duty or retired police officers.

All Instructors Are Pennsylvania State-Certified

Every Cantorís Driving School instructor is certified by the State of Pennsylvania, a rigorous process that includes submission of extensive documentation proving credibility of qualifications and character, including:
  • Applicantís original Three-Year Driving Abstract from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
  • Applicantís original Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check
  • A copy of the applicantís Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Public Welfare
  • Applicantís FBI Fingerprint Information
  • A copy of applicantís valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate, showing certification in Driver and Safety Education, if requesting exemption from the theoretical and practical examinations
  • A list of names, addresses and daytime telephone numbers of three persons serving as character references for the applicant, none of whom are related to the applicant or are in any way connected to the school in which the applicant is seeking employment
  • A recent photograph of the applicant
  • Notarized application and licensing fee
  • Driving school owner Frank Cantor must provide a statement of employment as a driving instructor at his school
  • Certification must be renewed every year

Meet Our Instructors



Byron Dresner

A teacher with a State secondary school certification, Byron has a good understanding of the unique teaching strategies that help teenagers learn how to drive safely. Previously, he was a driving instructor for AAA before it closed its program. Byron often teaches at the Friendís Central School in Wynnewood, PA, in addition to his several years at Cantorís Driving School.

Gaetano Bosco

Gaetano has driven over 700,000 miles professionally and safely throughout the East Coast driving commercial vehicles as well as school buses in the Tri-State area for over 15 years. Gaetano has been trained in the Smith System Driving Program and uses that knowledge to produce experienced and safe drivers under the most challenging situations. Gaetano specializes in working with beginner drivers and his training program is a proven method for getting beginners out on the road safely and with the proper foundation. Gaetano is an expert at evaluating drivers and will recommend a program that will increase skill level and help build confidence. 95% of the students that follow his recommendations pass the drivers test on their first try. For over 17 years, Gaetano has been working part time as a DJ entertaining hundreds of teenagers during high school social events as well as weddings. He enjoys teaching the safety of driving to all ages and experience levels.

Tim Shay

Tim graduated from the State Police Academy in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1984, and then worked for 25 years as a State Trooper in Chester County. In addition to his patrol duties, Tim conducted Pennsylvania driverís exams when this function was performed by the State Police. Tim is a two-time recipient of the State Police Safe Driver Award.

Kevin Doherty

Kevin has been driving a truck professionally for the same local company for the past 14 years. He has over half a million miles of professional driving experience, including city, rural and interstate highway driving. He drives many different types of vehicles and trains new truck drivers. In his personal life, Kevin has driven across the United States of America multiple times. Kevin drove in the city of Los Angeles for six years, and has experience driving in Europe. When heís not training drivers, Kevin still drives a truck part time. Defensive driving is his passion. Kevinís calm and kind demeanor puts students at ease, while he still stresses the incredible responsibly every driver assumes each and every time he or she get behind the wheel. Kevin teaches safe driving techniques and tips that his students will remember and utilize for a lifetime of safe defensive driving. He is a resident of Montgomery County.


Bob Tyas

Bob has been teaching driving for well over 30 years. He started with Taggertís Driving School, one of the large driving schools operating in NJ and PA. In the late 1980s, he joined Confident Driving School where he taught thousands of students to drive. Bob taught his own children to drive, along with many friends and parents who now have their children learning with Bob. Outside of teaching driving 6 days a week, he is an avid photographer and even loves to play guitar. He is a resident of Eagleville.


Charles Cusanno

Charles is a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper, having served over 24 years in a variety of assignments throughout the state. For over four years, he was a Defense Department Contractor, teaching High Threat Driving at the US Air Forceís Air Advisor Academy located at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. There he taught driving skills to members of our military as part of their pre-deployment training. He was also a Police Skills Instructor for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Charles is currently working as a Criminal Investigator with a municipal police department in the Philadelphia suburbs.
