Cantor’s Driving School is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to give the driver’s license road test as a third party tester. Examiners from Cantor’s Driving School are certified by PennDOT to administer the road test at our location in Chadds Ford, PA

The road test service is available as part of a package of driving lessons, Drivers road test in progressor qualified student drivers can just take the road test at Cantor’s Driving School. Upon successful completion of the driver’s road test, the learner’s permit will be marked and the results will be submitted to PennDOT for processing. Once PennDOT receives the test results, a camera card will be issued and mailed to the address of record so that the holder can go get the photo driver’s license. The correctly marked and documented PA Learner’s Permit serves as a valid driver’s license until the the camera card is received.

Prep Lesson Plus the Driver’s Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School

Maybe you would like to refresh your driving skills and be better prepared to take the road test. Cantor’s Driving School also offers one short lesson and the road test. The single lesson is a confidence builder – a test prep lesson to go over what is on the road test. The prep lesson is done prior to when the road test is given at the Chadds Ford, PA location; transportation is not provided for the prep lesson or the road test.

The cost of a half hour (30 minute) prep lesson plus the road test is $150.

Advantages of Taking Your Driver’s Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School

Cantor’s Driving School is now able to give the Class C Non-Commercial Skills Test as a PennDOT Certified 3rd Party Testing Center. We were one of the few locations selected by PennDOT to give the driver’s license road exam. That means if you have your PA learner’s permit, you don’t have to wait weeks for your road test. Based on our road test schedule, it may be as little as a two to four days wait. The best thing is – there will be NO need to wake up at 4 o’clock in the morning to schedule an exam, and you can call us during normal business hours to book your test!

How Do I Take the Driver’s Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School?

Of course, taking the driver’s exam road test with Cantor’s Driving School has all the same legal and documentation requirements that PennDOT dictates. As a PennDOT Certified 3rd Party Testing Center we are required to follow all of the same regulations and guidelines as the Pennsylvania Driver’s License Centers. These include:

  • Only a person with a valid Pennsylvania learner’s permit can take the road test.
  • If under 18 years of age, make sure 6 months have passed since the issued date on your learner’s permit. Tests cannot be given unless it has been at least 6 months since the learner’s permit was issued.
  • If under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must accompany the student to the road test and sign the Parent Or Guardian Certification form (DL180C Form) in person. This form attests that the student driver has completed the required driving experience prior to taking the test.
  • There is no waiting period if you are over 18 and have a valid learner’s permit.
  • All road tests are given by Cantor’s PennDOT Certified Examiners.
  • Parallel Parking for Driver's Road Test, Cantor's Driving School
    • All road test routes are PennDOT approved. Every driver’s skills test route has the same minimum required components.
    • Required Maneuvers: Parallel parking will be tested before going on the public roadway. The applicant’s skills are assessed while performing at least two right turns and at least two left turns while on the road. The applicant must also drive through and abide by at least one traffic control device, such as a stop sign or traffic signal, and one speed zone change.
    • Skills Test Scoring: The skills test is scored according to PennDOT’s regulation point system. This system serves as the measure in determining whether an applicant is qualified to receive a PA Driver’s License and whether the applicant can continue building skills on their own.

    To Take the Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School, You Must Do the Following:

    • Road tests are by appointment only and the fee must be paid in advance. Please do not simply arrive at Cantor’s Driving School to take the test.
    • When you pay for your road test, you will be contacted shortly to schedule the date and time for your road test. The appointment must be booked at least 48 hours in advance of the desired date and time.
    • There are no refunds – if you miss the road test, the fee is forfeited.
    • Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your road test start time to complete your registration and present your documentation. If you are late you forfeit your appointment and the fee you paid.
    • Road tests are ONLY given in a Cantor’s Driving School vehicle, and there is no additional cost for use of our car. No exceptions! This way we don’t need to validate your vehicle’s registration and insurance, do a vehicle inspection, and other annoying details.

    If You Pass the Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School

    Upon successful completion of the driver’s skills test, your learner’s permit will be marked and the results will be submitted to PennDOT for processing. After PennDOT receives the successful test results, a camera card will be issued and mailed to the your address on record. You should receive the camera card within 2-3 weeks from the date it was processed by PennDOT. Please note: When you pass the road test, the correctly marked and documented PA Learner’s Permit serves as your valid driver’s license until the camera card is received and the photo driver’s license is obtained.


    Re-Tests – How to Re-Take the Road Test at Cantor’s Driving School

    Not everyone passes the driver’s road test on the first try. If you fail the road test given by Cantor’s Driving School, you will have to take it again. If you are unsuccessful in passing the driver’s skills test, the learner’s permit will be marked and the results will be submitted to PennDOT for processing. If you are 18 years of age or older, you may schedule another road test at the next available appointment which will be at least 2 to 4 days later with Cantor’s Driving School as per our state contract requirements. If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must wait at least 7 days to be eligible for another exam. Please note: if this is your third unsuccessful attempt at the driver’s skills test, the learner’s permit will no longer be valid for continued practicing or testing and you will need to obtain a new learner’s permit.

    The fee to re-test is $65.
