Cantor’s Driving School Alert on New PA Teen Driving Laws

October 23, 2011

Cantor’s Driving School wants all teen drivers to be aware of the new Pennsylvania laws that direcly affect them. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer coverage of this new teen driving restrictions recently enacted:

  • "The final version [of the new law] limits teen drivers to one passenger - immediate family excepted - for the first six months after they receive a junior license."
  • "If young drivers finish those six months with a spotless record, they will still be limited by the new law. Until age 18, they can carry no more than three passengers who aren't in their immediate family."
  • "The new law also will make driving without a seat belt a primary offense for teen drivers and their passengers - meaning police can pull over a vehicle for that violation without additional cause. "
Also, according to MontgomeryNews.com, the "bill also expands training requirements before a teenager can take a test for his or her license, specifically increasing behind-the-wheel training from the current 50 hours to 65 hours - 10 of those hours to be at night and five of those hours during inclement weather."

Cantor's Driving School offers night driving lessons and driving instruction during inclement weather to help fulfill these new requirements.

Tips from Cantor's Driving School Instructor and Police Officer - What to do if stopped by the Police

April 14, 2011
Cantor's Driving School has many driving instructors that are off-duty or retired police officers. They provided the following tips on what do if you are stopped by the police - great advice for teens, new drivers, and experienced drivers.
  • Activate your right turn signal and pull to the right side of the road as quickly and safely as possible. Shift the vehicle into Park.
  • If the stop occurs at night, turn on the vehicle's interior light as soon as you stop the vehicle.
  • Place your hands on the steering wheel, in view of the officer, as he approaches your vehicle. Make sure your passengers limit their movements and keep their hands in view.
  • Lower your window and keep your doors closed as the officer approaches. Stay inside your vehicle unless the officer asks you to exit the car.
  • Keep your seat belt fastened as the officer approaches.
  • Wait until the officer asks you to retrieve your driver's license, vehicle registration and insurance card before making any movements to do so. Do not hand the officer your wallet, only the items requested.
  • Always be polite and courteous. The officer will tell why you were pulled over and let you know if you're going to receive a warning or a citation. If you disagree with the citation do not argue with the officer at the scene. You will have an opportunity to contest the ticket in district court.
  • At the conclusion of the vehicle stop, re-enter traffic as safely as possible and continue on your way.
